Cigar Dossiers

It’s sad when a good cigar ends.

It’s even more sad when you can’t remember the name of your favorite smoke when you’re at the shop.

Not only do cigar dossiers add sophistication to a good smoke, they also allow you to add more of what you enjoy to your collection, while avoiding spending money on cigars that you forgot you don’t like.

Meek Meadows dossiers are timeless pieces that will look good on your shelf forever. Let us help you create something tangible, that can be cherished for generations as a reflection of you, your tastes, and your authenticity.

Cigar Shapes

Six common cigar shapes:

Cigar shapes, styles, and sizes vary from company to company, so most afficionados refer to cigars by their length and ring gauge as well. Ring gauges refer to the width or thickness of the cigar. Finally, ring gauges are measured in 64ths of an inch, and are written without the fraction, as singular numbers (for example, 64, 54, 50, 46).

Corona

Benchmark cigar size. Traditional dimensions: 5.5-6.0 inches with a ring gauge of 42 - 44.

Churchill

Traditional dimensions: 7 inches with a ring gauge of 47.

Robusto

Traditional dimensions: 4 3/4 to 5 1/2 inches with a ring gauge of 48 - 52 inches.

Pyramid

Cut foot, but tapered head. Traditional dimensions: 6-7 inches with a ring gauge of about 40.

Perfecto

Tapered foot and tapered head. Length and ring gauges vary as the perfecto may have a bulge in the middle, or be asymmetrical.

Culebra

One the most interesting cigars, the culebra, is made of three cigars braided together that are meant to be unbraided and smoked separately, resulting in an interesting, curved smoke. These cigars are usually panetelas, which are long and thin, traditionally 5-7 inches with a ring gauge of 34-38.

Parts of a cigar

Wrapper: the outer leaf that is visible to the smoker.

Binder: often the same type of tobacco as the outer leaf, binder holds the filler in place.

Filler: the tobacco at the center of the cigar is the filler, and it can be a blend of tobaccos, as this is usually where the cigar maker orchestrates the finer aroma and flavor blends of the cigar.

Head: the top or tip of the cigar is usually finished with a cap, and requires a cut before smoking.

Foot: the open end of the cigar where the filler is visible.
